(Include Where and Why you thought this….)

My Holiday

AWESOME:

One thing I thought was AWESOME in my holiday was when my cousin had his first baby.

SCARY:

One thing I thought was SCARY in my holiday was when my aunty had a stroke overseas while she was getting ready for work and no one in New Zealand could see her because she was that far away.

RELAXING:

One thing I thought was RELAXING in my holiday was when my 2 cousins came over and we stayed home all day and watched movies while the adults were at work and spent the day without our phones because it got taken off us.

Current events
Hurricane Humberto on its way to Bermuda.

Hurricane Humberto is expected to hit Bermuda and unleash heavy rains, strong winds and rough seas. Hurricane Humberto was moving east-north at 7 mph with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph.

This hurricane has caused Marine traffic disruptions and an increase of high risks at the beach.

The hurricane can reach up to speeds of 110 mph ( 177km/h) most of the homes are made
of stone and mortar, and as a result structural damage is likely going to be minimal.

The Digestive System

How does our digestive system work?

When you eat, the saliva breaks down the chemicals in the food to eat which also helps to swallow our food and make it easier for us to digest. Our digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal tract, also known as the “ GI ‘’ tract. Once the food has been crushed down and all the chemicals have been removed, all the food travels pass the GI tract and mixes with the digestive juices which is created into small molecules.
The digestive system all work together by processing our food we eat one at a time so it's easier for the rest of our digestive system to handle. The small intestine has four main parts, the appendix, cecum, colon and rectum.
The appendix is a finger shaped pouch attached to the cecum, the cecum is the first part of the large intestine, the rectum is the end of the large intestine. The stomach is a bean shaped sack underneath the lower ribs, Once food hits the stomach sphincters at the opening of the stomach and exit into the small intestine close. The acids in our stomach kills any harmful microbes that may have found their way into our system.

Should Matariki be a public holiday?

I agree that Matariki should be a public holiday
because Matariki is a time to celebrate and it's a special time for the Maori culture.
Matariki is all about traditions and spending time with whanau,
Matariki is the start of the Maori New Year and should be honoured.

In traditional times, Matariki was a season to celebrate and prepare the ground for the
coming year. Matariki is known as the seven sisters or the eyes of God.
Matariki is celebrated by cooking traditional foods, exploring the outdoors
and spending time with whanau.  Matariki has been around for many years yet it
still hasn’t been made a public holiday.

I believe that if Matariki was to become a public holiday younger people could
understand the meaning of it and why it is important to our communities and our
cultural heritage. I believe matariki should become a public holiday because it is a time
for families to gather together and improve ourselves as better people and a time to
acknowledge our family members that have passed on.

If Matariki was a public holiday it would give people more time to do traditional things
with our families and learn more about the importance of Matariki.

Therefore I agree that Matariki should be a public holiday!
